Long Training Runs

Dear Vannies

Last year we initiated 3 long runs for the NYC Marathon build-up.  This year we're going to repeat it.  Runs will be 20, 21 and 22 miles long on Sep 16, Sep 30 and Oct 7 and start at 8am.  We'll hopefully have aid stations along the way with water and anything you bring put there waiting for you.  We'll break into pace groups so you needn't worry about your speed.

More details to follow later about the runs so please join the Group to receive further details and to let me know if you'll be coming and what pace you plan to run.

It's that time of year again!

Please 'sign up' by commenting below that you want to join your fellow VCTC members in a ride to the start.  First come First Serve Basis!

The bus holds 44 People MAX (no standing allowed).

$10. CASH per person, please bring exact change.

BE AT THE HANDBALL COURTS FOR BOARDING AT 7AM, EARLIER IF YOU WANT PHOTOS. BUS LEAVES AT 7:10 SHARP.
WE WILL TAKE A GROUP PICTURE AND HOPEFULLY TALK TO SOME LOCAL REPORTERS FROM THE RIVERDALE PRESS.

PLEASE WEAR YOUR VCTC CLOTHING
(Please note: If the temperatures are cold on race day morning, I HIGHLY recommend bringing extra extra clothes. Being cold before a marathon is not smart or fun!)

The first wave of the NYC marathon starts at 9:40am. We should be in Staten Island within 45 minutes after we leave Van Cortlandt Park. Here is the NYC marathon webpage about the starting waves and other important information:http://www.nycmarathon.org/entrantinfo/start_services.htm

See you all soon!
Michael Arnstein

PS: Please try to pee before you get to the vans in the morning! ;)

10 mile run this Sunday 2 Replies

Hi, I am planning to run the last 10 miles of the marathon course this Sunday around 8:00 a.m.  Anyone interested in meeting on First Ave by the bridge?  I plan to run about a 10 min pace. Continue

I've been looking at the Manchester marathon.  Very tempting...

Registration is still open for this marathon in New Hampshire!  It's no NYC, but since we've put in all of the hard work in training, it may be fun to try this instead.

I just registered, and am planning on driving up tomorrow.  Send me a message if you want to coordinate!

I would like to add my uncle to the bus transport for the Marathon.  His name is Eric Traynor.  Kevin/Jonathan, is this ok?

I understand that he will be responsible for transportation fees.

Thank You!

Better information, when corrals close:  Wave 1, 8:55 a.m., Wave 2, 9:35 a.m., Wave 3, 10:10 a.m., Wave 4, 10:40 a.m.

In other words if the bus leaves vcp at 6:15 and it takes an hour to get to the staging area, arriving around 7:30, a.m, are you really going to miss your 9:40 a.m. start?

We need a calculation here.  For some of we slowpokes, we have to sit around for hours in cold and start the marathon as ice blocks.  Wave 1 starts at 9:40 a.m., Wave 2 at 10:05 a.m., Wave 3 at 10:30 a.m. and Wave 4, at 10:55 a.m.  How long does the bus take to get to the staging area?
