I have registered for the Self-Transcendence Marathon on August 24th at Rockland Lake State Park. I will be running this race for the 5th time (4th consecutive). It is a nice way to spend a weekday morning in August. Part of the experience here is that everyone involved is extremely enthusiastic and supportive of everyone else.

Steamtown has sold out. It is a nice race, but I never imagined that this would have happened so soon. If not for the message posted here last week, I would not have thought to register early enough to get in. Thanks.

I'm currently signed up for NYC and Chicago. Mike Oliva is also signed up for NYC and training hard, I expect him to run sub 2:35 for sure, we are training together now.

Mike

Are you not doing the NYC Marathon? It's a points race. Chris Eckstrom wants to run it which will be good for the 40s and open teams, but we need to do some volunteering to get him in.

I'm running NYC, but last wek also put in my Steamtown entry. There's a whole bunch of us doing it - Bette and Jill and I don't recall who else, but it will be a VCTC roadtrip for sure - do it for the fun of a club weekend.

I have run Hartford three times, and in 2004 I did Hartford on Saturday and Steamtown on Sunday. I would consider both again, but in general ING = "too expensive".

Rachel - Unknown what I'll do. I was pretty much sure I wanted to do Mohawk-Hudson, but apparently that won't be happening.

It's getting a bit late for me to be thinking about an Oct marathon, so it's possible I'll bail on a fall marathon and instead make one or two attempts at getting a really fast half in (I need to find three and half minutes to qualify for NYC).

So, still uncommitted :(

Thanks for reminding me. I just signed up for Steamtown. This will be my 8th time. It has always been a really nice experience, and I recommend it highly.

For those looking at October races ... time is running out (or has already run out) especially for the famously fast courses:

Steamtown (Oct 10): "As of July 14th we have 2,122 entrants. Only 378 spots left."

Mohawk-Hudson 10/10: Sold out full and half!

Bay State Marathon: 258 slots left as of July 15.

ING Hartford: closes Oct 1, don't know if they cap

5:58:45.

I accept that my best times are long behind me. I also realize that whether my time is 2:58:45, 3:58:45, 4:58:45 or 5:58:45, it really makes no difference to anyone (including me). By the way, Michael Wardian's winning time was 2:26:22 (and he came in 26th at Comrades two weeks later).

What I attempted at Delaware was to walk each mile (with occassional running breaks) in exactly 13:44 and finish in exactly 6:00:00 ( I was 75 seconds too early). This is good practice for longer races, especially ones where the majority of the runners end up walking (and I end up catching many of them).

My long term goal at Delaware is to complete the race 10 consecutive times (which will happen in 2014), so I must pace myself in the (very) long run as well.

I will also be at Steamtown (8th time).
