Anybody up for a bit of a run around the park tonight? Regular place and time.
I know several people are going to the armory tonight, but I'm not digging being on an indoor track right now.

I'm away this Thursday to try and get in some New Year's skiing up north. If anyone is around and planning on a New Year's Eve run, post away!

Ken--If you have problems getting the 10th man for the relays, include me. Of course I am not anchor material!

I did the 800 meter in 2008 and the mile this year. These races are harder than they seem - they are EXTREMELY competitive and men will wait 30 min to an hour to run while they call out insane times and still manage to fill 7-10 heats with these runners. The indoor air is brutal on your lungs and unless you are used to running on an indoor track, you will be coughing like you just smoked a pack of cigarettes and may throw up. So, like Ken said, be prepared. I went out thinking I could handle three races at one of these, and did one before I almost vomited and had to go home. However, on that note, I'd like to maybe try the mile again - but it is a LONG night standing around to run for 2-6 minutes. That is the biggest deterrent for me... yeah that and almost vomiting. Have fun :)

Hi Mike,

You'll need to do more short interval work to prepare yourself for the 800 and mile. 200's and 300's will help you to develop the necessary turnover. Short bursts on uphills wouldn't hurt either. We can try some of those next Tuesday. Indoor racing takes some getting used to with tight banked turns, runners' elbows and the dry air.

Any good pacing estimates for track racing? The 'four second rule' and the various on-line predictors like Run-Down and McMillan do well for me 5K and up, but seem to get a bit sketchy at the shorter distances. The closest to reasonable for me seems to be the "Purdy method" on Run-Down (which also almost exactly extrapolates my 5K out to HM).
