Mudder's and Grunter's

5 Mile Trail Race in FDR Park, Yorktown Heights, NY

March 30, 2003

Conditions couldn't have been more awful or great, depending on how you want to look at the race. The Taconic Road Runners as usual, created a course that deliberately slices through the deepest swamps and thorniest thickets. In areas, there is barely a trail, with only pink ribbons to guide us along. This year, to make the race all the more delicious for the hardened masochist, weather conditions were absolutely horrid. Temps were barely 40 degrees, as the rain turned to sleet, and the back to rain, as it came down with greater ferocity. The mud was deep and crunchy with ice. As we stomped through the swamp cabbage, the muck tried with all it's might to suck off our shoes. Even those that put duct tape on their shoes lost out. The river crossing near the end was the icing on the cake, with depths up to our chests.
