How did you get into running?
My little brother started training for road races with my dad when he was in 2nd grade and I was in 5th. Eventually they convinced me to join them. I did my first road race wearing canvas, high-top converse all-stars because my dad said I had to show I was serious about running before he'd buy me real running shoes. Soon after I joined the city kids' track team (the Gainesville Striders) and continued to run through high school and college.

When my college team won the South Conference by one point in 2003. I'd been out with a stress fracture most of the season so had done most of my training in the pool. Even though my time was far from my best it felt like all those lonely hours in the pool paid off.
