Save The Putnam Trail

The purpose of this campaign is to get the Putnam Trail resurfaced with a stone dust instead of paved asphalt and reduce the proposed width from 16ft down to 8ft.  Current NYC Parks Department plans will double the current width of the Putnam Trail from 8ft to 16ft!  To gain a better perspective on this proposal, think of the fact that this trail will be wider than average lane on an interstate highway, which is 12ft.  This will require the destruction of many trees and will have a detrimental…See More

NJ Marathon 2010

The NJ Marathon has 3 races combined in one. A marathon, 1/2 marathon and marathon rely.

Total there are over 10,000. runners! This is a big crowd!

The scene at the start is massive, it's like a major city marathon with a sea of people.

With so many runners it's very exciting to do well.

Yet since they don't offer prize money no super elite professional runners usually do it.

It's still competitive and usually the winner has to run close to 2:30 to win.… Continue

JFK 50 Mile Race Report (Carrier Highlight!)

Race Report: The JFK 50 Mile Ultra Marathon (Boonsboro, MD) November 21, 2009

This is undoubtedly one of the greatest athletic performances of my life! Over 1000 people do this each year, it is highly highly competitive. Yet I came in 2nd overall this year, yet more importantly and more shockingly – my time today was the 4th fastest time in the races 47 year history – yes that is correct, only 3… Continue

Thanks so much for the warm welcome to VCTC!!!  You, Paul Arroyo, & Jonathan Stenger have been very welcoming to a newbie like myself!  It means a lot coming from someone I look up highly to like yourself, who's already an ultra LEGEND (VT100 champ, 5:50 at JFK50, almost the fastest Grand Slammer, Holiday Marathons founder, etc.)!  Hope to run lots of trails and hit the pavement with the VCTC folks.  See you at Rocky Raccoon 100?  I just pulled the trigger for it.

Do you eat spirulina or chlorella? How about seaweed, and do you eat that raw as well?

Although no other animal cooks its food, no other animal heats its home the way we do. I let my home get very cold in the winter, and hot food and an iron supplement makes it easier to tolerate.

I looked at thefruitarian.com and it seems pretty interesting. I do cook vegetables and many fruits. It makes them easier for me to digest, and hot food warms me up, especially on a cold day. What raw fruit do you get sufficient iron from? I take a ferrous gluconate supplement (based on my blood test) and I have noticed the difference.

Yeah, building on the team would be exciting!

I'd love to do a run in CP. Are you free next Wednesday the 14th? I can do 5:30 if that works for you. Name the place and I'll be there.

Hi Michael, Thanks for writing: Don't be too worried--8 minute pace is pretty fast for me these days...That's how "out of shape" I am. But I must say, I'm excited to hear from all of you guys and am looking more forward to getting back in to the swing of things than I thought! See you on the trails???

Hi Michael, I have check some of your times and you are flying. Right now I will be luck if I can run 2min for 400m, last time I ran was about 21 years ago in my early 20's but looking to make a comeback into running. I am hoping to run my first race in April and hopefully as a part of Van Cortlandt Track Club.

That sounds like a lot of fun. I'd run in it and help out along the way. Send some stuff over to Rich at the Broadway Ultra Society. I'm sure that they'll help out as well.

Yep, that's the St. Croix course. I've done that race for the past 5 years. I DID get over the stress fracture, have done some racing since, but I have so much going on (don't we all!?!!)..... I want to focus on running more in 2010. Maybe do some shorter TRIs...no IM.
What's going on with you?
