1/2 mile - 2 minutes, 50 seconds.
Mile - 5 minutes, 45 seconds.
Did the 24 hour run years ago with 9 other people from the VCTC - one other woman and 8 guys. Ran 24 miles in 24 hours. The ten of us ran in order and continued repeating that order for 24 hours on the track at Susan Wagner HS on Staten Island in the early 80s. Ran MANY races from 1978 through mid 90s and placed in many of them.
How did you get into running?
Always wanted to run, but my HS didn't have a team and I played other sports. Just decided to try it in late 70s at West Side Y, then joined VCTC after meeting some people at a race.
Year's you've been running?
On and off for the better part of 34-35 years.
What's your favorite race(s)?
5K
Most memorable performance(s) and why?
Any race where I had a PR, none in particular, but many have been enjoyable over the years either for the distance, course, or people who attended with me.
Running hero's?
Mary Slaney, Joan Benoit, and others. I attended two Olympics - 1976 and 1984, a lot of fun.
Why do you run?
To keep in shape, and it's fun. You are outside instead of just working out in the gym. The social aspect is also great too. I met many of my friends, running. We used to go out to Breakfast at the Riverdale Diner or the little coffee shop every Saturday, for many years. Also, barbecues, parties, trips, hanging out on weekends, etc.
What do you consider yourself, The Tortoise, or The Hare?
Depends on the day!
Future goals?
Just getting back to racing. Had a number of injuries in the past 10 years.
Any last words? Suggestions to the club admin?
Hope to get back in shape and see how I compare to those in my age group now, after not competing for a while. My husband and I really enjoyed the VCTC and ended up meeting as members and getting married. Hope to see some of the old faces and meet new ones.
