Well you've come to the right place. We are only too pleased to have you come join us. Sounds like you'll fit right in. We do our group runs on Saturdays but if you want to plunge in at the slightly deeper end why not join us tonight. In the winter we have to leave the track so we meet at the front of Fieldston HS, do a 2 mile run and then hills, but trust me, all ages and speeds do this.
Hi, thanks for the welcome and I am 46 years old. When I ran those time it was another life time, I was in my early 20's and 130lb, I ran for Walton HS and then for Lehman College, then for Bronx Interboro Club which was located in Coop City but this was about 20+ years ago. Anyway, today I am about 260lb I had stop running and got into weight lifting for the past 21 years but I want to get back to running. I will be ready to run my first race hopefully by April.
No problem. You in the right club. Details about Tuesdays you can get from Ken. During the winter they now meet by Fieldston School/Manhattan College because of snow on the track. Thursdays we still meet at the Tortoise and Hare statue on Broadway at 7.30pm. Some will go hard, but it is also good for newer runners who may well find others of the same speed around or just want some friendly safe company on a dark night. We mainly run around the flats in the park while it's dark. Bring a flashlight or headlamp perhaps. You'll be very welcome.
Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the greeting! I would say that I'm a beginner runner with a lot of love for the sport and in need of a support group to keep running outdoors in the winter.
Would love to know about the Tuesday/Thursdays workouts and see if my schedule allows me to make it.
I'd love to go for a long run. This is my second day in the Bronx and I'm itching to get out and find some running. I hope that the snow clears by tomorrow! Happy New Year.
Sure. People go at all speeds. It's a circle so you can't get left behind! Sometimes we split into 2 groups if tehre's lots of us. Tonight will be the warmest for a while so make the most of it. 7PM at the finish line.
Yes, I did IMWC this year. I was there in 2005, qualified in 2007 again, but couldn't go because I was hit by a car while on a training ride... This year I went and just enjoyed the whole thing! There should be an article coming out in "INSIDE TRIATHLON" magazine this month--I was interviewed a few days before the race.
Thanks! I could not have done it without speedwork. I did mentally give out a bit. I was on pace for a 3:16 until mile 21. I think next time I need to up the mileage. I never go above 40 and sometimes am in the 30 per week range. What do you think is normal? Good luck Sunday!
Thanks for the reassurance! Unfortunately, I just had a minor medical setback that is preventing me from doing any running at all for a total of two weeks, so hopefully I'm cleared later this week. If that's the case, I'll try to get there within the next two Tuesdays! Should I just pick up a singlet at that time then?
I just joined VCTC in Sept but have not received my singlet. I plan on participating in some of the upcoming speed sessions, however am not going to be able to do so until November. Are slower/newer runners able to participate [i.e. "keep up"] in the Tues/Thurs night session? Thanks!
Yes, it's "G" here - thank you very much for the invitation! And GREETINGS to all from SUNNY THAILAND!!! I'm watching the Yankees/Angels series here live on ESPN missing my Manhattan in the fall...
Hope everyone is well and enjoying the changing weather! Sorry to say I won't be joining you'all on the pavement anytime soon...I've become sole caregiver to my fiesty 85-yr old Mom over here and all travel plans are on hold for the time being. ...(BTW, Dad was a Washington Heights native, Mom a 1943 Spanish Harlem immigrant from Detroit, where they brought me up...)
However, I am training again with a purpose, trying to "regain my youth" and despite a game right knee, have launched a "Fit@50!" campaign to see if I can bring my fitness level back up to to the 10k heydays of my 1980's youth...have a peak at www.fitat50.wordpress.com for the outline of my "sports med virtual odyssey", a combo training log/American College of Sports Med medical alert for those of us that have left our 20's but not our youth behind...
I do promise to meet everyone as soon as possible, meanwhile I'm very much enjoying a virtual jog round the City with you all! Have a good run, nice breakfast and a Bloody Mary for me!
Hey, Nice write up in the NYRRC magazine, holy crap that 145mile race is EPIC MAN - I want to try that race someday - will you crew me!!?? Maybe in 5 years when I decide I really want to suffer like never before I can do it ;)
