The Riverdale Ramble, June 6, 2004, 10 AM

John F. Kennedy High School, Bronx, New York

Temp: 60 degrees with steady, light rain

Over 300 runners came out for the Ramble and Fun Run despite the steady rain. The cool, wet weather turned out to be a blessing, as the punishing hills of Palisade Avenue didn't seem so steep, and the 10 kilometers didn't feel like the usual 20 kilometers, as many past runners have claimed.

Our winners were Peter Heimgartner of Manhattan and Michelle Rorke of Bronxville. Peter was able to pull off an very fast 34:49, and Michelle was able to just crack a 40 minute 10K with a 39:59. At the conclusion of the race, runners enjoyed the usual selection of oranges, bananas, and Bagel Corner Bagels. Everyone left the race, happy that they fought the urge to stay in bed late, as most would do on a cool, rainy Sunday morning, and went home, knowing that they were able to run New York City's most challenging road race under ideal conditions.

Climbing the last of the many hills on the course

Our winnerrs Peter Heimgartner and Michelle Rorke show off their trophies with Race Director Yuen Na Chun

Much of the course is on wooded and hilly Palisade Avenue. Except for the occasional house, most of the road runs through parkland.

Ready, Get Set .....
.... and they are off!
